Check prepared artwork quality and print size

Review words, edges, transparency, and actual pixels before choosing the physical print size.

Updated

Check the exact version before adding it

A prepared badge belongs to a particular saved output. It does not mean every version in the design history has been prepared, or that every detail is correct. Select the prepared thumbnail and compare it with the source before adding it to your sheet.

Review both the whole composition and a close view. A small preview can hide a wrong letter, a pale fringe, or a missing piece of the design. Preparation can improve the usable raster, but it cannot verify the intended wording or logo for you.

  • Exact words: read every name, number, date, and line of text. Compare with the wording you intended, including punctuation and repeated letters.
  • Edges: look for rough outlines, stray pixels, clipped artwork, unwanted halos, and fine details that disappear at the chosen size.
  • Transparent background: view the artwork against light and dark shirt colors. Check the spaces inside letters and around fine shapes as well as the outer edge.
  • Physical size: confirm width and height in inches for the actual placement. A design that looks good on screen may look soft when enlarged.
  • Version: verify the preview and the artwork you add are the same prepared version you reviewed.

Use pixels and inches together

Effective resolution is pixels divided by inches along the same side. For example, a 2400-pixel-wide image placed 8 inches wide gives 300 pixels per inch; at 12 inches wide it gives 200. A 600-pixel-wide source placed 6 inches wide gives only 100. Changing a resolution label without adding useful image detail does not fix that.

The prepared delivery has a maximum longest side of 4800 pixels. That cap corresponds to 16 inches at 300 pixels per inch along that side. It does not mean every prepared file is 4800 pixels, every file supports a 16-inch print, or that this calculation guarantees a particular printed result.

A checkerboard picture is not transparency

Real transparency lets the shirt color show through the image. A checkerboard baked into the artwork is made of visible pixels and can print as part of the design. The preview checkerboard alone cannot prove that your file contains transparent pixels.

Preparation checks the delivered raster and rejects a completely opaque result when the source contains transparency. That check does not prove every edge is perfect or remove all unwanted background pixels. If you need to clean an edge by hand, Studio offers Cutout Studio. Review the edited result as a new version; do not assume it retains the earlier prepared certification.

Fix an issue before checkout

  1. If spelling or an artwork detail is wrong, correct the source or select a correct existing version.
  2. If the size warning says the prepared artwork may print soft, choose a smaller width or ask for guidance about the source and required dimensions.
  3. If pixels change, check the new version and review its own preparation quote when needed.
  4. Check every artwork item, copy count, and placement in the physical order before checkout.
