UV DTF project ideas

Make your next product more than
another logo on a cup.

Create a coordinated welcome kit. Turn a simple pen into a customer giveaway. Personalize a team's bottles. Build a small product collection around one original design. Explore projects by what you want to make, who you are making it for, and the surface you plan to decorate.

New to UV DTF? These are full-color, peel-and-stick transfers for suitable hard, smooth surfaces. You apply them with pressure and remove the carrier film. No heat press is required.

Find a project worth making

Start with what you want to make.

Five black pens fanned on a navy surface, each with a small glossy AMS UV DTF strip on the barrel

The customer giveaway that is not another business card

Project: Branded pens

Build a pen design around the one thing you most want someone to remember: your business name, website, or recognizable logo.

For the artwork, start with a simplified horizontal layout rather than shrinking an entire business card onto the barrel. Review the design at its actual printed size before ordering.

Pair the finished pens with customer orders, appointment packets, event bags, or a countertop display.

Project: Personalized water bottles

Use a shared team or school logo on one side and an individual name on the other. The collection stays coordinated without making every bottle identical.

Build the layout around the usable decoration area, not just the bottle's advertised capacity. Check where the design sits relative to the grip, lid, handle, and any changes in shape.

A welcome kit in an open box: a mug, a pen, and a small acrylic name plate carrying the same logo

The welcome kit that looks like one brand

Project: A mug, a pen, and a personalized desk item

Start with one visual system: the same logo treatment, a consistent color palette, and a name or message that connects the pieces.

For a new employee, that might mean a logo mug, a branded pen, and a small desk sign. For a client, it might be a welcome message and the contact information they will actually need.

Design the set together before ordering the individual transfers.

A tumbler, mug, and jar decorated with one wildflower illustration sized differently for each object

One design, a small collection

Project: Coordinated tumblers, mugs, and jars

Take one original illustration and create a family of layouts instead of placing the exact same rectangle on every object.

Try a main graphic on the tumbler, a smaller supporting illustration on the mug, and a simplified name or phrase on the jar.

Use this approach for seasonal collections, boutique merchandise, fundraiser products, or a limited design release.

A wedding favor people can use afterward

Project: Personalized glassware

Create the design around the object's life after the event. A small monogram, an original illustration, or a restrained name treatment can be the starting point.

Build a sample with the actual glass before committing to the entire guest count. Check the artwork scale and placement from more than one angle.

A clear acrylic tabletop sign with a logo, a large QR code, and the words scan to order

The vendor-table sign that has a job to do

Project: An acrylic business sign

Give the sign one main purpose: explain what you sell, display your business name, or direct visitors to a specific destination.

For a QR-code layout, keep the surrounding design simple and test the finished sample with multiple phones before producing the batch. Make sure the destination is the page you want visitors to reach, not just your homepage by default.

Recognition without a generic trophy layout

Project: Acrylic awards and keepsakes

Build the design around the achievement, not just the recipient's name.

Combine the organization's identity with the event, award category, and year. For a series of awards, establish one layout and make a deliberate space for names of different lengths.

Review every personalized version before submitting the order.

Frosted cosmetic jars and an amber jar with a front-facing brand graphic applied by UV DTF

The small-batch product label

Project: Decorated jars and rigid containers

Create a recognizable front-facing design, then decide which information belongs elsewhere.

A product name, a distinctive graphic, and a consistent layout can form the foundation of a small collection. Produce and inspect a sample on the exact container before preparing the rest.

Decorative transfers should not be treated as a substitute for any information your product needs to display.

These are project concepts, not claims that every example is stocked, tested, or sold as a finished AMS package. The pictures are concept renders to show scale and placement, not photos of stocked blanks. Each card links to the UV ordering flow; pair it with the exact blank you plan to use.

Start with the surface, not just the product name

Two products can both be called “tumblers” and still need different decoration decisions.

Before choosing a blank, check the actual area where the transfer will sit. Glass, ceramic, metal, and suitable rigid plastics are common starting points, but the exact finish still matters. Test an unfamiliar blank before ordering a production quantity.

“20 ounces” is not an artwork template.

Measure the usable decoration area on the exact blank. Print a paper version of the artwork at the intended size and hold it in position before ordering your transfers.

Surface checkWhat to look for
Material and finishA hard, smooth, non-porous decoration area.
TextureAvoid assuming a heavily textured, porous, silicone, or rubber-like surface will work.
ShapeCheck whether the artwork can lie against the surface without wrinkling or bridging a curve.
ConditionThe surface should be clean, dry, and free of condensation before application.

What actually stays on the product?

The design stays. The carrier film comes off.

Your artwork does not need a large white or clear rectangle around it. With a properly prepared file, the empty space around the graphic can remain empty. That is especially useful for lettering, separated design elements, and logos where seeing the product between the printed details is part of the finished look.

Before you upload: check that the background is genuinely transparent where you want the product to show through. A white rectangle inside the artwork is not the same as an empty background.

Build a coordinated project, not a collection of unrelated items

A shirt, a bottle, and a pen can belong to the same project without using the same transfer.

Use apparel DTF for the shirt and UV DTF for suitable hard goods. Keep the branding consistent while preparing the artwork and application method for each item.

Example project brief

“We need 12 staff shirts, 12 personalized bottles, and 12 branded pens. The logo should match across the set, and each bottle needs a different name.”

That is a useful starting point for planning quantities, sizes, and the separate decoration steps. It is an illustration, not an advertised bundle with an implied price or turnaround.

A finished-product photo shows the appearance. A test shows something different. Watch the setup and the result, and read the conditions alongside the video so you can understand what was demonstrated on that particular item.

Results shown apply to the featured test. They are not a blanket guarantee for every surface, cleaning method, or outdoor environment.

We made our own branded pens

What does it take to turn a blank pen into a branded giveaway? The pen we used, the artwork at actual size, the application, and the finished result. Use the breakdown to plan your own version rather than assuming every pen and logo needs the same setup.

The pen, the artwork at actual size, the application, and the finished result. Material cost and labor are separate numbers; keep them separate when you price the batch.
  • A simplified horizontal layout beats a shrunken business card.
  • Firm, overlapping pressure matters more on a small curved barrel.

Know what the project costs before making the batch

A transfer price is only one part of a finished product.

Plan for the blanks, transfers, incoming shipping, decorating time, packaging, and any pieces that do not make it into the finished batch. Keep the assumptions visible. A materials-only estimate should be labeled materials-only, and a selling price should not be presented as profit.

Total included batch costs ÷ usable finished items. A selling price is not profit: subtract this number from what you charge, then decide whether the margin covers your time.

Questions before your first UV DTF project

Can I use the same transfer on a shirt and a mug?

No. Choose apparel DTF for fabric and UV DTF for a suitable hard surface. The artwork can share a design, but the transfer and application method are different.

How do I know what size to order?

Measure the exact decoration area, then check a paper version at that size. Review the visible artwork dimensions in your order, not just the size of the file's empty canvas. Transparent padding around a graphic is the usual cause of a size surprise.

Can I move the transfer after it touches the product?

Plan the position first. UV DTF is not a practically repositionable application once the adhesive makes contact.

Does a durability demonstration mean every decorated cup is dishwasher-safe?

No. A demonstration documents its test conditions. Follow the care instructions for the blank and the transfer, and do not extend one test result into a claim about every finished product.

How soon can I receive my UV transfers?

Check the production and pickup or shipping options for your selected order. Production time and shipping transit are separate, and same-day DTF service does not automatically apply to UV DTF orders.

Have the object? Let's plan the design.

Choose the product, measure the decoration area, and prepare the quantity you need.

Already have artwork? Start your UV order. Still choosing the surface? Review the application guide before committing to the batch.
